It’s the time of year already for conferences. I feel like we were just shopping for new school supplies and scheduling hair cuts for class pictures. Yet fall is almost past us and my husband and I just finished conferences for my two children last week. Sitting in the classroom is always a little strange for me. It makes me realize that my children have these lives of their own and this is their daily “home away from home”. It also reminds me how vision affects learning and how much our children’s vision plays a part in their classroom experience. How do you know if your child’s vision is working to enhance his/her learning? Maybe it’s hindering your child’s learning. Let me briefly explain how vision affects learning and provide a few quick ways to flag it as a possible concern.
Uptown Eye Care would like to introduce the BioPhotonic Scanner. This is new technology that measures the carotenoid levels in your skin. Many of you may have seen it on the Dr. Oz show.
November is National Diabetes Month. Dr. Tracy Schauer, Therapeutic Optometrist, encourages anyone who has, or may be at risk for, diabetes to schedule an annual eye examination.
“Diabetes affects 18.2 million Americans, 5.2 million of which may not know they have the disease, “ Dr. Schauer said. “ One of the health problems associated with diabetes is diabetic retinopathy, a disease of the eye which can cause blindness.”
Uptown Eye Care’s Dr Tracy Schauer will have a booth the Diabetes Health Fair being held at the New River Medical Center in Monticello, MN next Tuesday. She will be visiting with attendees on the importance of caring for your eye health if you are living with, or at risk for, Diabetes.
So, what is the best way to develop an antioxidant defense strategy?
Studies show that consuming at least 8-10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day is a great way to boost your level of antioxidants. You should make sure to include bright red, orange, yellow and dark green colored fruits and vegetables. Realistically, many people live lifestyles that do not include eating the necessary amounts of these foods to impact antioxidant levels in their bodies. The good news is that there are some high quality supplements available on the market that can help make up for this deficit.
The doctors at Uptown Eye Care are now equipped to assist you in evaluating your level of carotenoids. The BioPhotonic Scanner can measure your antioxidant score in a matter of seconds.
What a great time we had at our Rake in the Savings trunk show! We had guests arrive before 9:00AM so they would have the best selection of frames to chose from. Larry Thomas from Spectrum Optical lab was on hand all day to answer questions on the latest technology in lenses and to take charge of our VisiOffice system, which takes the precise and detailed custom measurements necessary for fitting the latest in digitally surfaced lenses. Kirk, with Europa International Frames, is always a favorite guy to have at our shows. He came with the largest selection ever of Scott Harris, Cinzia and David Benjamin frames. Todd, who brings us our Morel-France eyewear, also had a fantastic selection of Koali and Oga frames. With such high quality and beautiful options available it was very difficult for most to narrow down their choices. By Uptown Eye Care
